The week also includes a Geography Bowl and a student photo contest. The National Geographic Society promotes Geography Awareness Week each year to highlight and support geographic education. This year’s theme, Geography: The Adventure in Your Community, promotes geo-literacy by exploring the idea that you can make new and amazing discoveries right in your own backyard by using geographic skills and perspectives.
