India Sends Delegation to Learn About Drought
The National Drought Mitigation Center welcomed three visitors from India on June 10, 2008. The three visitors were Professor Vinod Sharma from the Centre for Public Policy, Planning, and Environmental Studies; K. P. R. Vittal, Director of the Central Arid Zone Research Institute; and K. V. Satyanarayana, Director General for the National Institute of Agricultural Extension Management. | ![]() |

Discussions with the NDMC focused on a new Drought Management Center being formed in India, and the lessons learned from the NDMC experiences both in the U.S. and around the world. Each visitor made a presentation about their organization during a seminar in the afternoon. The visitors were also able to meet with SNR Director, Don Wilhite. While in Lincoln, the visitors also spent an afternoon with Bob Swanson at the USGS offices. After their visit in Lincoln, the visitors headed to Boulder, CO, to meet with the National Integrated Drought Information System (NIDIS) Program Office. The visitors also attended the Workshop on the Status of Drought Early Warning Systems in the U.S. that took place in Kansas City June 17-19. This workshop was co-organized by the NDMC, NIDIS, NWS, and USDA. |
