Key Information
Posted 07/11/06
Exterior Doors: All outer doors for Hardin are setup for card access. You will need an NCard to get in after hours. Currently, hours are set for 6:30 AM to 4:00 PM Monday through Friday for the tower and dock area, and 6:30 AM to 5:00 PM Monday through Friday in the north wing. Around July 17th, these hours will be extended to 5:30 PM. All existing employees have already been setup for NCard access; please test it out and let me know if you do not have access.
Stairwell Doors (in the tower): The week of July 17, the stairwell doors are to be unlocked between 6:30 AM and 6:30 PM Monday thru Friday. The street-level entry door will require the NCard at all times.
Interior Doors - Hard Keys: SNR is implementing the new University Key Policy which requires that the department handle keys (inventory, deposits, etc). The department has to pay $10 per key, so that is what we're asking employees to pay. We're not able to collect/refund deposits through payroll, so the deposits must be paid in cash or check for the exact amount; a copy of your NCard is also required. When an employee leaves the department and turns in keys, we will initiate a refund.
Interior Doors - Card Access: Authority to use NCards on interiors doors was setup for us earlier in the process based on a list of our employees. We will transition into being able to control that list ourselves. If you have problems accessing a hallway or room that you need access to via NCard, please let Christine Steggs know.
Who Can Have Keys: All regular faculty and staff are authorized to have keys. If you are a graduate assistant, temporary or oncall employee, your supervisor, advisor, or lab manager will need to e-mail a list of locations and people who are authorized to have access to Christine Steggs.
Who to Get Keys From: After we're in Hardin, keys will be handled by the Office Support Staff on 5th floor: Elaine Connelly (primary), Bernice Goemann (backup), and Diana Smith (alternate backup). Because of physical location, vacations, etc., you can get keys this week from Christine Steggs or Sharon Kelly. Beginning 7/18 you'll be able to get keys from Elaine or Bernice.
When Will My Key(s) Be Available: Keys for people moving in this week are available now (except for Christy Carlson & Song Feng). We have not received any other keys yet, so we'll have to send out an e-mail notice when the keys for next week's moves are received. Our goal is to have keys available about 1 week before your scheduled move.
What to Bring to Get Keys: Bring $10 (cash or check made to UNL) for each key and your NCard; a copy will be made of your NCard and will be retained by the department. You'll receive a hard copy receipt that includes the number of the key(s) that have been given to you, the amount of your deposit, who received your payment, and the date of the transaction. You will not need to retain this receipt for a refund.
Each office key is to also open the floor's work room and conference room, so please be sure to check these after you get your key(s).
Refund of Existing Keys: To get a refund for existing keys, you will need to take your key(s) to UNL Key Services at 942 North 22nd Street. It is best if you have your receipt, but if you don't and you purchased the key(s) in the last 10 years, Key Services staff can search through their records to find the original key card and give you a refund for the amount you paid. If the original key was purchased through the former East Campus Key Shop or was purchased more than 10 years ago, they will not have records.
UNL Key Services Location: Key Services is located at 942 North 22nd Street (in the loading dock area of the building at the northeast corner of the 22nd & W intersection). To get there, go to 22nd street, turn east on W street, and take the first left (north). Drive to the end of the street and park in one of the stalls marked for Key Services. Walk into the loading dock area and enter the door on the North side of the dock ("Keys" is on the door label). Once inside, you'll be directed through 2 more doors before you are at key services. If you need to contact them, their phone number is 472-8083.
For Supervisors Who Want to Purchase Keys for Internal Check-Out: Sent e-mail to Christine Steggs with your request. Include room name, room number, number of keys, why you're making this request, and cost object. When the keys arrive, they will be given to the supervisor to manage.
For Students and Graduate Assistants: Ask your supervisor or advisor to send an e-mail note to include the rooms you need access to.
